Legendary Food Trails 2024

One Little Studio have been providing design, communications and marketing support to Destination Lough Derg for a number of years. Involving a variety of stakeholders across three counties, the projects are designed to promote tourism, on behalf of Fáilte Ireland, across Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands and One Little Studio have delivered a range of design, marketing, event management and PR/Communications to drive activity.

We recently used our expertise and innovation to develop the Lough Derg Legendary Food Trails which are designed to offerings to promote a sustainable and long lasting agri food tourism product across Lough Derg.

We created a ‘Legend’ by:

Hosting an online workshop to introduce the concept, determine eligibility and create a space for discussion.

Following up with an in-person workshop to establish saleable experiences, seek out ideas and suggestions, and channel contributions into a framework for further collaboration.

And running a final online workshop confirming the core group with a defined product and agreed themed flagship experiences to showcase the Legendary Food Trails.

We developed bespoke branding that chimed with existing Lough Derg messaging, providing lots of creative, colourful collateral for businesses to push out. Bespoke packages were developed across theme to encompass all areas from glam to farm.

We developed stories to tell as part of an extensive marketing campaign with lots of support for businesses to work together, set prices, tell stories with pictures and videos, market their product, make it accessible, and fully understand the customer’s experience.

Our extras

It was important that, in creating packages to energise the rural economy, the focus would be on existing products and services with a good dose of flexibility. This ensures that diversification for local suppliers is more likely to be sustainable and will avoid unnecessary pressure on existing workloads.

This has worked well – how do we know?

The success of the Lough Derg Legendary Food Trails is a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives. With support from Tourism Ireland, Discover Ireland, and the three counties surrounding the lake, the product has gained popularity and recognition both locally and internationally. The Destination Development Group has received requests from additional providers for inclusion as the product moves into its second year. This very positive response is a clear indication of the product’s success and its potential for growth. The consultation process has also been incredibly beneficial for local tourism businesses. Many have received valuable advice on how to create their own unique products, and are now preparing grant applications to further develop their offerings. This not only benefits the businesses, but also contributes to the overall success of the Lough Derg Legendary Food Trails by diversifying the experiences on offer. Perhaps most impressively, the product has generated 2.6 million positive impressions of the region, showcasing the beauty and richness of the area to potential tourism experience providers and visitors. This is a clear demonstration of the power of community-driven initiatives and the impact they can have on promoting a region to the world.
